10 years of service to the MOT industry
It's good to talk!
When making decisions - whether about an unfamiliar car, the weight, or just about how to produce reports from your VTS - you have four main options:
If you’re 100% sure, make the decision yourself
If not, you could call someone you know who has a station - but will they pay your loss of earnings if they give you the wrong advice?
You could phone VOSA - but we'd advise you not to attract their attention if you can avoid it...
Call CVTS and get it right first time! Our advice and helplines operate 24/7
If in doubt call 02380 226263. Let us identify your shortcomings before VOSA does!
Keep your authorisation!
Despite the credit crunch, people still need to have MoTs carried out on their cars.
If you lose your authorisation, it’s likely that your customers will go elsewhere - and it can be difficult to regain customer loyalty.
If you want to open another station, you will have to deal with VOSA’s perception of your premises - and that could prove costly.
We have long suspected that VOSA has a vision of what the ideal station should look like. This has now been confirmed with the distribution of their best practice leaflet.
We can help you to comply with this vision. Our technical team delivers station-saving advice every day. To help you to keep your authorisation, we offer everything from station visits to full risk assessment programmes.
Handy Hints for MoTs
refusing a test
If you need evidence of the date on which the vehicle was first used but this isn't produced, you can refuse to test it. NOTE: This information is usually only necessary if the vehicle has a 'cherished' registration or if it is unclear what standard should be applied (e.g. seat belt requirements for a 'D' prefix vehicle).
abandoning a test
You can abandon a test if a problem associated with the vehicle stops you from testing it. Find out more details of what you need to do in the VTS Device User Guide (Appendix 10. F17 Page 1).
aborting a test
You can abort a test if a problem with the equipment of the VTS stops you from testing the vehicle or you can't complete the test because you're taken ill. Find out more details of what you need to do in the VTS Device User Guide (Appendix 10. F16 Page 1).
re-testing a vehicle
Any tester can carry out a re-test, although it is obviously preferable that it is performed by the original tester.
rolling road
If you have a breakdown on your rolling road, please inform VOSA. You can then test PRE-BOOKED MoTs for up to 48 hours using Tapley.
wall charts
There is no longer any requirement to purchase wall charts. Unbelievably, some companies still try to pressurise stations into taking them!
Contact us
I can't tell you the amount of times we have called for advice, and you've been polite, courteous and correct every time.
We were sceptical about the CVTS tech guy coming to do a station check, but what an eye-opener - brilliant!
